One of the most accessible, self-service tools college students have to deal with the stress of a university lifestyle is exercise. While exercise will not cure mental health issues alone, research shows that it can help. My goal was to help students access this resource to help manage stress. I started by interviewing stakeholders and identifying key frictions and needs, which include accountability, support, micro goals, and autonomy. I decided to design a fitness program at the recreation center on campus to begin teaching students how to incorporate wellness into their busy lifestyle--for instance, focusing on scheduling it around typical workload schedules. I designed the program based on micro-goals, fun classes, community, and incentives. Then designed a fitness trailhead to leave students with instructions to be able to continue using after the challenge.
